An An Lieu...
COUNSELLOR / COUPLES+ THERAPIST
Hello, my name is An (pronounced like the An in Anya). I hold a Master of Counselling from Monash University and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology with Honours. I work with individuals and couples+, and I’m passionate about creating a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where people can feel truly seen and supported. I welcome people from all walks of life, including those from LGBTQIA+ communities, diverse cultural backgrounds, and all kinds of relationship structures.
My approach is collaborative and flexible. I believe that therapy works best when it’s tailored to you—your story, your values, and what’s most important in your life right now. I bring empathy, humour, and curiosity into the room, and I see therapy as a space where we can gently explore challenges, strengthen resilience, and move toward meaningful change—together.
I like to draw from therapies including:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
The Gottman Method
My approach is rooted in a client-centred framework that prioritises empathy, non-judgmental acceptance, and a collaborative relationship with each client. I integrate a range of therapeutic modalities based on individual needs and concerns.
I bring extensive experience as both an individual and couples counsellor, supporting clients through transformative and meaningful therapeutic journeys. My approach is grounded in empathy. I’ve undertaken training in couples therapy, including EFT and The Gottman Method, so that I might help couples+ navigate relationship challenges and build deeper emotional connections.
I also support clients in developing constructive communication and conflict resolution strategies that foster mutual understanding and intimacy. I believe in the transformative potential of therapy to strengthen relationships and empower individuals to lead more fulfilling lives.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m committed to ongoing professional development so that I can continue offering thoughtful, up-to-date care. Whether you’re coming to therapy on your own or with a partner or partners, my goal is to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever it is you’re facing, at your pace, and in your own way.
I have engaged in research as part of the NTU Social and Affective Neuroscience Lab and have been involved in publications on topics such as intergenerational parental bonding, parenting, relationship quality, criticism in relationships, and sleep patterns.
People who see me may be experiencing things such as relationship and communication difficulties, affairs and infidelity, trauma and grief, emotional regulation and expression, life transitions and personal growth.
