Luma Room is a relationship therapy practice offering evidence-based guidance for couples+, no matter where they are in Australia. All therapists at Luma Room are able to adapt sessions to an online format so that we can offer inclusive, evidence-based care to couples+ who may not live close to us, to each other, or who just prefer the convenience of doing therapy online.
We aim to provide a warm and welcoming space for anybody who would like to navigate and nurture their connections, and more deeply explore the relationships they have with themselves and others. We understand that we each have our own inner and outer worlds, and aim to hold consideration for each individual as well as for the relationship itself.
What to expect…
For relationship therapy at Luma Room, you will team up with a registered therapist who is trained and experienced in couples+ therapy.
We are dedicated to evidence-based practice that is tailored to your relationship. We value a warm, non-judgemental, and curious approach in collaborating with you to explore and better understand your relationship dynamics and context.
Your values will always be respected so that you are working towards the things that are meaningful to you in sessions. Feedback and open communication are also encouraged so that you and your therapist can make sure you’re aligned and on track.
This is an LGBTQIA+ friendly space and all cultural backgrounds are welcome. All relationship structures are welcome.
Relationship therapy may suit you if you’d like to navigate and nurture the connections that are significant to you.
People who attend relationship therapy may be experiencing things like communication difficulties, feeling as if they’re stuck, navigating change together, making significant decisions together, repairing trust, wanting to grow their connection and intimacy, wanting to increase understanding, navigating contextual stress and hardship, exploring alternate relationship structures and non-monogamy, navigating parenting and household dynamics, exploring attachment dynamics, and understanding how the past may be influencing the present.
Telehealth relationship therapy, may suit couples+ who are in long-distance relationships, live or work a little further away from Luma Room's Brunswick location (including those from regional or remote communities and interstate), find it challenging to align schedules for an in person appointment together, or who simply prefer do to therapy online.
In your first session, you and your therapist may spend some time getting to know each other and, if you feel comfortable, you’re invited to share what you have been going through and about your context. You may discuss any goals you might want to work towards and make a plan for moving forwards. Some therapists recommend a longer initial session length to understand you more deeply, and if this is your preference, you can let us know.
At the beginning of therapy, your clinician may suggest that you each attend an individual session to understand you and your relationship more thoroughly. You can let them know if you feel comfortable with this. After this, typically, couples+ attend weekly or fortnightly. Some evidence has shown that it can be helpful to attend sessions more regularly to start. You can even request to do therapy in an intensive format, which involves longer and more frequent sessions. You and your therapist can collaborate on a schedule that suits you once you have gotten to know each other in your first session.
We recommend booking some sessions ahead where possible to secure your preferred time and so that you and your therapist can ensure space is protected for your relationship.
